Although chemotherapy is given to kill cancer cells but chemotherapy effects on normal cells too .The normal cells are those cells that grow quickly. Damage to these cells accounts for many side effects of chemotherapy medicines. Each chemotherapy medicine has different side effects, and they can be different in doses, the way of drug is used to given and the effect of drug individually.

While getting chemotherapy your blood will be tested regularly, even daily, so the number of these cells can be counted easily. If you are being treated for leukemia, bone marrow samples may also be taken timely to check the development of blood cells.

Certain chemotherapy drugs can damage the heart. If the heart is damaged by chemotherapy, it may not be able to pump blood through the body as well as it used to do before the chemotherapy. This can cause to fluid build-up and can create other problems known as congestive heart failure.

Often, before the doctor starts chemotherapy with a medicine that can cause heart damage, then he will check the function of your heart that it is working in a proper way or it has any type of major problem.
